We didn't have one? Well, we do now...

We've had them for Rock and Roll, Baseball, Football, Country Music and Hockey, but not for Sailing. A Hall of Fame, that is to say. Odd isn't it? Doesn't everyone know that the America's Cup is the oldest trophy in international sport? Apparently, it seems that we've been so busy sailing that we forgot to establish an institution to record the sport's history and to recognize those who have made great contributions.

The good news is that this oversight has finally been resolved. After years of hard work led by the energetic and multi-talented Gary Jobson, America finally has a National Sailing Hall of Fame. We recently had the pleasure of attending a talk about the new Hall of Fame given by Gary at American Yacht Club. Gary has recently been traveling the country promoting this new non-profit and sharing classic stories of victory and defeat.  He is a great advocate for sailors and boats of all types and sizes. And, he is asking all of us, as individuals and yacht clubs, to step up and get on board to make it happen.

Today, the NSHF physically exists in one small building on the Annapolis waterfront. It's virtual footprint, however, is quite large and clearly demonstrates the mission of the NSHF and the categories and contributions it intends to capture and preserve.

There is a lot of content to enjoy on the site, including photography. World-renown photographers Onne Van Der Wal and Daniel Forster have graciously made a collection of their images accessible through the National Hall of Fame website. Click on an image to follow the  links.

We hope everyone does indeed get on board to help preserve America's great sailing heritage. The classic owners, and many others, are already making their support known.
